creative means

I’ve become quite obsessive lately about expelling my pent up whatever-it-is through various creative means other than writing. One cannot write about everything without it sometimes being destructive.

So last night I painted a picture on an unused canvas. It looks like a dog’s breakfast, hence the name of painting: Dog’s Breakfast. Then The Ant pointed out, rather admirably over my masterpiece, that it in fact looks like abstract straw. So we planted a needle onto the gloopy paint and renamed it Needle In A Haystack. Brush strokes, however haphazard, are unbelievably therapeutic.
It’s hung next to the TV cabinet.

I also played the piano [or man-sized keyboard rather] for two hours, relearning a currently out-of-practice classical piece I love, E. Poldini’s Poupeé Valsante. I used to play it perfectly – not a note or staccato out of place – and won a music scholarship for it at school. I also sang karaoke into my decibel-equalising echo-regulated microphone, curtains closed this time, for another hour.
I then created a pretty flow diagram (Dontcha love those? Like the Krebs Cycle in biology) on who I am, solutions to deal with my bouts of anxiety and sadness lately, and what situations I’ve been through before that’s made me the person I am today. I hung it on my wall, facing my bed.

I listened to Eminem and Dirty Dancing throughout the evening.

I felt so much better, painting, playing a musical instrument, writing and singing. These creative outlets for me cannot be condemned. They really work. I feel much better today.
I am ready to concurrently embark on a bout of spontaneous Friday night-eveninging tonight.

Way to go Peas! Yay for creative things and filling up time with hobbies. Like someone posted the other day about studying, I also traded TV for studies a while back and it feels great to fill my time with something meaningful. Of course, I'd rather play my guitar than study, but still.

Hope you have tonnes of fun getting into creative stuff. Awesome :)

yay to peas!!! is that traces of the normal fun loving peas i see...or is it my imagination?? personally i write and play piano when i'm upset/down/sad and sometimes i go drive around on the freeway like a mania, but that's another story. i dunno much bout art, but i have a friend working at Alice Art Gallary, and i'm sure you'd be able to fetch a tidy price for that little proof of your artistic abilities!! some of the things in that gallery is absolute crap! yours is way prettier:-)

Okay, whats going on here?

Have you guys not heard of Phuza Thursday? I know ur wanting to try to be healthy and find your inner happiness and stuff, but it was Phuza Thursday last night...

:) Then again I am sure you aren't suffering with Phuza Face Friday like me... maybe I should think about messing up a canvas or two myself...

Rachel - Yip, I figured slothed out in front of the TV watching random crap isn't going tohelp me - so last night I got busy. Definitely going to buy some new canvases.
Yip, you and Richard have found studying to be enlighting, which is FANTASTIC. I always found it a drag, but then I suppose it's what you study eh?

Storm - yay! It feels better to feel at peace, I must say. What do you think I could get for my masterpiece - maybe five, ten bucks?? ;)

tBerry - nope, never heard of it dollface. But turned down a boozy thursday to do all my creative shit. See you at the art shop? ;)

Excellent work peas!

I'ma gonna buy me some spair canvasses, because last time i got the urge to paint, by bathroom ended up a strange shade of pink - all I had was a leftover can of paint from a friend (...it didn't look that colour on her wall?) some brushes, masking tape and The Urge!

Your idea is waaay better. Go creativity go!

I suggest regular interpretive "art" classes - only not so much classes as free-for-all finger painting sessions. Whose in?

Antoine - you're too sweet. ;)

Hot pink - hilarious! So glad we don't have spare pots of paint lying around, it could've been a disaster.
WE came up with an idea not so long ago - The Ant, C and I - paint our entire bodies and throw ourselves up against a man-sized canvas, and see what happens! Noice, eh? ;)

different form of body pain i see;-)
naaah peas, you could actually get up to bout 3 or 4 thousand!!! you'd be surprised at what some of my friends clients pay for seriously hideous stuff...it's all in the name. i'm sure someone would luuuuv to buy a peas masterpiece...lol

Eminem and Dirty Dancing??!!?!?!?!

Freaking hilarious! Although I fully understand the need for complete contrasting genres sometimes.
I for one (in the dance-a-thons I have) can jam to Venga Boys (yup tahts right folks) Lionel Richie and Justin Timberlake all in one sitting!

Hilarious Peasypoo just hilarious!

What a constructive evening! Am thinking of painting something myself one day, when I have my own place.
Looks like Peas is on the mend!

Peas.... I know something that could create a bit of fun and relaxation & I think if you know me well enough I think you'll know what it involves!!!

Peas on Toast said...

Insane - I'm telling you it's totally the way forward. :)

Rainbow - pardon me for my bad memory, and I chacked your blogger profile - I have no idea who you are my dear. Any more clues?

Peas...it's Sim! Sent you a mail! :)

And then you should've cooked up a storm. ...Sorry, the dangers of lunchtime commenting.

Great to hear you are getting frustration out of you!

So....can we commission you for works of art then??

Peas on Toast said...

Sim - thanks babe, duly recieved. :)

Champs - I thought about cooking, but the problem with me is that I completely lose my appetite when going through a shit time. Even when I'm hungry, I just can't eat. I have forced down one giant cookie today, and that's what I'm running on, can you believe it! PLease commission me, I'd be most flattered! :)

Champagne Heathen said...

Ooooo, a giant cookie you say. I could eat a giant cookie right now...

Ok...you're commissioned. Hold on...does that mean I actually have to fork out money though??

I like it. It's bold, it's energetic, it's chaotic - it's very "you" (BTW what exactly did the dog eat?)

Peas on Toast said...

Champers - no you just need to be my agent. :)

Kyk - thanks big guy. MSG-laden fruit noodles?

hey!! it was my idea! do i get royalties or commission or something??

Storm - I tell you what, if I sell it for twenty ront, you can have at least fifteen. 75%. Sound good? ;)
