mum's the word

Mum came over on Saturday. We breakfasted at the Mugg & Bean and had a nice, chilled day together. It was a fairly docile weekend, as I had premeditated - barring a short Manhattan visiting on Friday, a fun day spent with Crispy White Shirt Guy on Sunday, ending up at the Jolly Roger, and wine and a DVD with The Dove.

Had some interesting chats with my mum though:
1) My grandparents were on Laugh Out Loud. (South Africa’s Candid Camera.) Poor doddering Francophiles, ambling casually through a street in Cape Town where they were told war is about to break out. Apparently my grandmother just stared helplessly at the dressed up war guerrilla, and gramps, basically told the man to fuck off. That’s my gramps.

2) My mum was in labour for 18 hours, I got stuck in the birth canal, and she had to be rushed to surgery. And my heart stopped. Having me was the ultimate bitch. Poor woman.

3) We’re going to plan a mother, daughter trip. For end this year, or next year sometime. Possibly to Provence, ride through the Luberon valley on bicycles. Or to Reunion, or Morocco. My mum’s a gas when we travel together, so I’m stoked.

And we need to get new bulbs for our lounge. Two have blown, over the weekend, and now the place is cast in darkness. This in itself is depressing.

PK/C/Poennie - JHB just isn't the same when you're hamming it up elsewhere in Blikkiesfontein chine. :)

I'm impressed. I love my mother dearly, but there is just no way I would be able to manage a trip with her and keep what's left of my sanity intact.

Shorty - My mum and I usually drive each other crazy. I think we just bring out the worst in each other, and we fight shitloads. Luckily, for the first time in ages, we actually had a great day. I'm sorry to hear about your situation though, that sucks. *hugs*

Kyk - I know what you mean. Perhaps I'm going crazy. ;)

Good luck with the mother daughter trip. My mother and I are always threatening to do this...but never seem to actually manage.
How was the day with Crisp White Shirt Guy?????
Love the LOL incident with your grandparents...I am very close to LOL at the moment...too close...it lives with me in my edit suite.

Jam - oh bless, then you've seen my grandparents then! :) Crispy White and I had lots of fun, was a cool day.
And Daytripper - you're right, lunch with the old lady can be a drag, but for some reason we travel well together...most of the time. ;)

PS:
On the light bulb front - in the last two weeks, both my outside light bulbs blew, my hall light, my bathroom light and one of the bedside lamp bulbs blew. I think they don't make them like they used to.

Ha ha Jam - they bloody well don't make them how they used to. What would Thomas Edison say? He's probably muttering to himself in Lightbulb Heaven exclaiming, "Cheap bastards. My lightbulbs never would've blown after three months. Never."

LOL! I know. It's all those times I come home late, and fall asleep with the lights on...

Jam - apparently the more times you switch on and off a bulb, the shorter it lasts apparently. So keep that light on forever, and it should be fine...or so I heard. ;)

The Tart - LOVE a man in a white shirt....
