waverly hills sanatorium

It's getting epic now. The face pawing thing. And my eczema has flared up again.

There are some things that are at the pinnacle of my irritation this morning regarding chez nous, la casa nostra, en domicile, but more pressingly I watched a scary documentary yesterday - by myself, all alone in my house - and nearly shat myself. It's about America's most haunted place. Waverly Hills Sanatorium isn't something you should take lightly. I should've switched the bloody TV off, but I couldn't tear my face away from the screen.

The sanatorium is in Louisville, Kentucky; a hospital originally established in 1910 for suffering TB patients. Tuberculosis was a serious problem in that region, due to climatic conditions and such, and from 1910 to the early '60s, people just pegged. There was no cure for TB in those days, and thus strange and sometimes barbaric experiments were used to "cure" the sick. From around 1963, an antibiotic was found and TB rapidly diminished, so they turned the old place into an asylum.

The mental patients were allegedly treated very badly, whereby electro-shock therapy and such was used, and people still died - this time under horrible circumstances. Some were shackled, nurses committed suicide all the time, all sorts of strange things happened. In the 1980s, the place closed down, and some oke bought it. He tried to condemn it by letting vagrants live there and destroy the fixtures and write graffiti all over the walls. He wanted to have it demolished so he could build a large statue of Jesus Christ on the property.

Adjacent to the hospital's morgue area, is a large, hidden "body chute". It's hidden, so that the patients couldn't see how many dead people were being carted off to the crematorium. (It connected the hospital to the railway tracks which would transport the corpses.)

But whatever, that's its history. It is estimated that as many as 63 000 people died at Waverly Hills. From severe mistreatment, questionable experiments and procedures and TB itself. It's therefore a place riddled in death and bad vibes.

So back to the documentary. I watched it on Wednesday night: it was dark and stormy outside, and I properly shat myself. Ghost hunters went in there and showed evidence of moving swirls of "energy" or "light orbs" in photographs, as well as light bulbs that were on. (The place hasn't had electricity since the 80s). Tours are taken around the sanatorium. And if I ever, by one millionth of a chance ever found myself in Louisville, I'd definitely go. Although would need to be heavily sedated after it was all over.

Ghost investigators who have ventured into Waverly have reported a host of strange paranormal phenomena, including voices of unknown origin, isolated cold spots and unexplained shadows. Screams have been heard echoing in its now abandoned hallways, and fleeting apparitions have been encountered.

Kids, to get a kick, often wander through Waverly, also had lots to say about what they saw. Especially in Room 502. Where two nurses killed themselves.

Click on the links if you're bored and check out the photos - and what people have picked up in them.
In my Googling, I found this.
It's a video showing a ghost in a bedroom, while the children sleep. Watch the bed on the left (no one is sleeping in it); and then watch this orb-thing bounce off the kids bed on the right.

Fuck....

Ah....ok. How scary was the radio just turning itself on the whole time...

And here's a story about "White Noise." We went to the video store last to year to hire it. Once we'd paid for it, as we walked outside, it was on sale on a "bargain bin" table right outside the store for R20.
(We hired it for like R30). Anyway. Once home, we switched on the TV and loaded the DVD, and on the TV, as we turned it on....White Noise happened to be screening at that very second.

Well, we found it IMMENSELY freaky anyhow.

Kab - freaky hey? You should see the documentary...it was on the Zone Reality channel and it was called "Creepy", aptly. Perhaps they'll screen it again. Alternatively, it is on the 'Net, and you can watch it there too...it just takes a bit of time to load.

Call a mate dude, and make him/her watch it with you! :)

PS: Your link is cut off, please repost it again! Dying to see!

OK goddit! How creepy, and also how creepy is the building? It's stuff blockbusters are made of - the place looks like a set for a horror movie, what with the whole abandoned building thing, the ripped up walls and glass-free windows and crazy-ass graffiti everywhere.

If I was a homeless infidel, I'd opt for the street, imagine sleeping in this place? No lights electricity and about 30 000 ghosts everywhere!

KaB said...

Well apparently, they have used the building or property to host huge rock concerts...with heavy metal bands etc...I suppose it has the whole goth thing going for it! Neighbours complained about the 'noise' so they've not done one for a while now! Imagine living in the vicinity of it...I'd poep my broeks! click on images of it in google...some freaky shit! Esp pics of the building!

Next time you are in Cape Town, check out the main gate at the Castle - the VOC used to execute prisoners there in the 1700's and even to this day the SANDF sentries sometimes see "odd" apparitions at 3-4am (!)

Hi Peas,
Large Marge hear in Northern California. I need your help! Christy Lochrie has served a restraining order in our local court against our NoPhatPink Chicks blog. We need your help to get the word out that blogging is our legal right, for chrissake! Christy Lochrie even hunted down comments we posted on YOUR BLOG and printed them out as "proof" and attached them to the restraining order request. She is now stocking me on the internet, and tracking down all my comments. Good grief! Luckily, we've hired WonderWoman to protect us from her evil doings! Check out our latest saga if you can! We have a court hearing date set for January 7, 2008! Thanks much!! http://nophatpinkchicks.blogspot.com/
